A couple of words
This was a time when I needed a security system that could provide a solid protection for my needs. I did online researches, and talked to my friends who have been already using this product for quite some time. So I decided to give it a shot after my friends' recommendations.
Since I've been using the app frequently, I have encountered with some issues while using it. The problems became more noticeable. As my thoughts come and go, I decided to come up with solutions which could improve my experience.
Current design
Problems
I've faced some issues while using the product:
• No filters for sorting devices
• No option to quickly turn devices on/off
• No fast access to multiple hubs
• All devices with issues are lost in the list
• Design seems outdated
Whether I'm hanging out at the party or shopping at a mall, I need to be in contact with my home security system all the time. On the go flexibility of using the product provides me a more secure, guarded way of freedom.
There are various emotions could be experienced, either good or bad ones, so the product needs to achieve a full customization of the security which can be controlled by intuitive gestures.

Information architecture
Hub + its devices
• Users can have multiple hubs
• Each hub can have multiple devices
• Users should be able to filter out these devices by:
a) Names
b) Use: intrusion protection, fire prevention, flood detection, controls, sirens, automation devices
Hub status
Every status change by the user should be visible
on a hub

User flow
Home
The user is able to control hubs, devices, and search for a particular device from a list.
Functionalities:
1. Number of hubs
2. Status of a hub
3. Number of devices for a specific hub
4. Search devices
5. Search devices by categories
6. Hub control
7. Hub’s devices control
Hub’s control
Here, I’m clearly providing three main functionalities of a hub:
1. Panic
2. Arm
3. Disarm
The main focus is only to get attention on the most important steps on this screen.
Searching devices
The user is able to search for devices by tapping keywords. The system will automatically suggest results to the user.
Filters
The user is able to filter out devices by categories.
Filters selected
Once the user has selected certain categories, he/she will get the results from the filters’ query.
Monetization
If people don’t use the product, the business won’t make any profit. Proper monetization would increase a user engagement strategy.
For instance, I would send the user twice per month or once in a month a push message regarding of improving the security system the user alread has. The user should be able to view, remove, or leave it as it is in the list.
The system should provide any reasonable suggestions to the user without any useless spamming.
Retention, conversion, or user acquisition would help me to measure the success (or failure) for this particular design solution.

To sum things up
I believe, any design solutions should be measured in order to understand its success. Here are some example metrics I could use to measure the success of my design solutions:
• Task success rate
• Task completion time
• Revenue
As a final step, before shipping these design solutions, I’d work with the product manager to understand what KPIs we should measure and what would be considered a success.
